Fire damage can reach beyond the flames

The burned area may only be part of the damage.

Smoke, soot, and water from firefighting efforts can affect other rooms, surfaces, and belongings throughout the property.

After a fire, it can be difficult to know what can be saved or where cleanup should begin. The first rule: work only starts once the property is cleared for entry.

Different materials respond differently to heat, smoke, and soot. Some can be cleaned and restored, while others need to be removed.

Smoke odors can remain in materials even after visible soot has been cleaned away. Addressing them means finding and treating the affected materials, rather than simply covering up the smell.

Water used to put the fire out is its own problem. It needs to be dried like any other water loss.

How the cleanup actually runs

Four steps, start to finish.

01

Inspection & Assessment

Once the property is cleared for entry, the fire, smoke, soot, and water damage is assessed to put together a plan for the work.

02

Removal & Tear-Out

Belongings, debris, and damaged materials that can’t be saved are removed, protecting surrounding areas and salvageable items.

03

Cleaning & Odor Removal

Salvageable surfaces are cleaned, smoke odors addressed, and areas affected by firefighting water dried. Methods depend on the materials and damage.

04

Reconstruction & Put-Back

Once cleanup is complete, the repairs needed to put the property back together are coordinated.

Keep a clear record

What should be documented for your adjuster

Damage assessment

The fire, smoke, soot, and firefighting water damage, including affected areas beyond where the fire started.

Photo documentation

Photos before, during, and after cleanup show the original conditions, what’s uncovered along the way, and the progress made.

Cleaning & equipment records

The cleaning methods, odor treatments, and equipment used throughout the job, including drying where needed.

Material removal & repair needs

Which materials were removed, why they couldn’t be saved, and the areas that will need repairs after cleanup.

What if my belongings need to come out during the work?

We carefully pack, document, and move your belongings out of the affected areas. Some items need to be stored off-site, others just need to be moved to different rooms during repairs.
